Choosing your Detergent

Most detergents are perfectly fine to clean your nappies.

It’s important to understand that for a detergent to be Cloth Nappy ‘safe’, it must NOT contain any softener, whiteners and/or brighteners. Fabric Softeners will coat the natural fibres (Bamboo and Hemp) and interfere with their ability to absorb effectively, while brighteners can be too abrasive for the natural fibres (Bamboo and Hemp) and PUL (waterproof) fabrics.

Baby/Natural specific Laundry detergents are often too mild to thoroughly clean your nappies.

Whatever brand you are using, it’s important to always follow the manufacturer’s recommended dosage, unless you are in a Hard Water area. If you use more than the recommended dosage, your nappies may experience a build up which means they won’t be able to absorb as much as they should.

We highly recommend our locally manufactured Super Nappy Wash. This detergent has been tailor-made specifically with Cloth Nappies in mind. This ultimate detergent will ensure your nappies get a thorough clean at every wash. It will minimise stains, eliminate odours and kill any lurking fungi & virus spores, whilst being gentle on the nature fibres within the nappy.
