Despite your best efforts there will be times when your nappies are stained.
Certain medications and foods can cause staining and discoloration on your nappies. Your first step and simplest solution is to ensure that your nappies get some sun when drying, ensure the inner, where staining happens is facing up towards the sun.
If the stains prove a bit stubborn then a gentle rub with Sunlight Green Bar or Boerseep will be a prefect pre-wash stain treatment. Clean the stained areas and re-wash the nappy.
Using Fleece liners help to minimize stains. Remember Liners go between the baby and the nappy, allowing the wee to pass through into the absorbing inserts whilst containing the solids.
We strongly advise against the use of bleaches, commercial stain removers and home remedies. There is a chance that you will damage your nappies irreparably.
To prevent mildew/mould in the first place…….make sure nappies are completely dry before putting them away, wash more regularly if possible, don’t wash too many nappies at once, give them room in the machine to bounce around, put them out in the sun as much as possible, and hot wash at 40 degrees. Storing your dirty nappies in a bucket without a lid will allow for extra air flow and evaporation thus assisting to dry the nappies a little before mould can form.
